When decorating with appliqué, it’s important to pay particular attention to your artwork. This technique works really well with big and bold shapes. It’s best to avoid calligraphy or nice thin wavy lines but rather, try something simple like an athletic font. This bulky font will be helpful when cutting out the fabric to be sewn on the garment.

First step for printing fleece. Cupid’s Favorite Kindergarten Teacher Valentine’s Day Shirt Adjusting your off-contact (that’s the distance between the screen and the surface of the substrate). You always want to raise the off contact because the fleece is a thicker material, you want to make sure that the screen is not touching the fleece before you print. Make sure you have about 1/8 of an inch of distance between the garment and the screen, so the screen is able to bounce back up after you apply pressure. This will help prevent smudging the ink after it’s laid down. One hack is using a piece of cardboard or thin material to help set your off contact. Secondly, selecting the right mesh count on fleece can really impact your print one way or another. You generally want to go with a lower mesh count at least for the base layer(s). The key is to penetrate the fabric to flatten the fabric out so that you have a smooth and stable printing substrate. Layering down a screen with the low mesh count will help create a smooth surface to print on. We typically start with a 135 mesh count screen for the base layer and then use a 225 mesh count screen for the top layers. Selecting the proper adhesive is very important when printing fleece. For printing jersey knit fabrics, we would generally use a roll-on water-based tack. For fleece, we use an aerosol spray and we spray each and every platen before the garment is loaded on. This is crucial for holding registration on press. Both a web-based spray adhesive or roll-on based pallet adhesive are popular choices when printing fleece. You can always test out different adhesives to see what you prefer. Just make sure the fleece stays put on the platen. An advance tip for printing fleece is to pre flash and flatten the fabrics before the very first print goes down. Run a flash that pre-shrinks the fabric and then the flattener screen is what actually locks the fabric down onto this protective flatten. Taking this extra step before you lay down any ink ensures an ultra smooth print surface on which to lay your design. It’s a quick and easy way to take your print from good to great! When we’re printing fleece, we want to be really careful about controlling the flash temperature on the press. Why is that different than printing on a T-Shirt? Because fleece is really prone to scorching, warping and moving around on press went the flash temperatures are too intense. The general idea is that you want to flash at a lower temperature and at a slightly longer dwell time if needed. For both water based and plastisol inks, we recommend flashing at temperatures between 220 and 260 degrees. This will reduce the risk of your garment streaking or distorting on the press. The best advice for printing on fleece is actually in the design stage. Designing to the substrate is what we call it, so creating designs that are actually print-friendly on fleece. Trying to minimize color count, minimize registration, limit the amount of detail in the design, that’s going to be your best bet for getting the best results. We hope these tips were helpful! For our design, we topped it off with a four color SPACE print using red, purple, blue and yellow. We recommend printing on our White or Vintage White Street Fleece to really make your design pop. For our design, we topped it off with a four color SPACE print using red, purple, blue and yellow. We recommend printing on our White or Vintage White Street Fleece to really make your design pop. For part three of our Design Innovation Series, we must warn you: people will not be able to resist feeling this new cashmere inspired sweatshirt we’re working with today. Our new sueded fleece is irresistible to touch but could be intimidating when it comes to printing. So if you’re a brand who is not afraid to try something new and like to set the trends, this sueded fleece screen printing technique is definitely for you.

First step for printing fleece. Red Dachshund Let The Shenanigans Begin Happy St. Patrick’s Day Shirt Adjusting your off-contact (that’s the distance between the screen and the surface of the substrate). You always want to raise the off contact because the fleece is a thicker material, you want to make sure that the screen is not touching the fleece before you print. Make sure you have about 1/8 of an inch of distance between the garment and the screen, so the screen is able to bounce back up after you apply pressure. This will help prevent smudging the ink after it’s laid down. One hack is using a piece of cardboard or thin material to help set your off contact. Secondly, selecting the right mesh count on fleece can really impact your print one way or another. You generally want to go with a lower mesh count at least for the base layer(s). The key is to penetrate the fabric to flatten the fabric out so that you have a smooth and stable printing substrate. Layering down a screen with the low mesh count will help create a smooth surface to print on. We typically start with a 135 mesh count screen for the base layer and then use a 225 mesh count screen for the top layers. Selecting the proper adhesive is very important when printing fleece. For printing jersey knit fabrics, we would generally use a roll-on water-based tack. For fleece, we use an aerosol spray and we spray each and every platen before the garment is loaded on. This is crucial for holding registration on press. Both a web-based spray adhesive or roll-on based pallet adhesive are popular choices when printing fleece. You can always test out different adhesives to see what you prefer. Just make sure the fleece stays put on the platen. An advance tip for printing fleece is to pre flash and flatten the fabrics before the very first print goes down. Run a flash that pre-shrinks the fabric and then the flattener screen is what actually locks the fabric down onto this protective flatten. Taking this extra step before you lay down any ink ensures an ultra smooth print surface on which to lay your design. It’s a quick and easy way to take your print from good to great! When we’re printing fleece, we want to be really careful about controlling the flash temperature on the press. Why is that different than printing on a T-Shirt? Because fleece is really prone to scorching, warping and moving around on press went the flash temperatures are too intense. The general idea is that you want to flash at a lower temperature and at a slightly longer dwell time if needed. For both water based and plastisol inks, we recommend flashing at temperatures between 220 and 260 degrees. This will reduce the risk of your garment streaking or distorting on the press. The best advice for printing on fleece is actually in the design stage. Designing to the substrate is what we call it, so creating designs that are actually print-friendly on fleece. Trying to minimize color count, minimize registration, limit the amount of detail in the design, that’s going to be your best bet for getting the best results. We hope these tips were helpful! We’ve partnered with Tom at Motion Textile to try a new holographic design that requires using multiple forms of printing: screen printing and HTV. We haven’t seen many looks like this, but believe it’s an eye catching look that is sure to win over your customer. We’ll be using one of our favorite pastel colored sweatshirts, some foil, and a screen printed photo. This was definitely uncharted territory for us and Motion Textile, but we like a good challenge. Let’s start with decorating advice. When we came up with sueded fleece, we love the touch and feel, but we weren’t really sure how it’s going to print, so we sent it to Tom at Motion Textile to do a test run. There’s no question, the fabric has a great feel, but it’s extremely porous, so his approach two fold: Use textured or distressed artwork (This way, you don’t have to fully penetrate the fabric, but can just print right on top of the surface). Tom’s approach is simple, because he says the sueded fleece fabric really stands on its own, therefore, the printing should just be accenting, or adding to the fabric. Christopher Property Of XXL Raw Shirt Using single layers of ink with no underlay, Tom recommends all wet on wet printing without flash. Ultimately, the ink is just becoming part of the substrate for an organic and natural finished look. For printing on sueded fleece, you generally want to avoid small graphics with fine detail and tight registration. Try to keep it loose with soft inks and colors, avoiding bright hues that require multiple layers of ink. The goal is to print right into the fabric, making the graphic become part of the substrate. For a look like ours, you will want bold distressed graphics, a low viscosity ink, and one hit per color on the press with no flashing in between. The textures of the sueded fleece paired with this design creates a super unique look that’s sure to be a head-turner. How would you make a screen print design on our sueded fleece your own? For those new to this industry. Print-on-demand occurs with direct-to-garment (DTG) printers. These are like large inkjet printers that can print directly on to cotton fabrics. Print-on-demand works for people starting out their clothing line because there are not many upfront cost. It works by you’re simply going to be having your credit cards charged when someone else buys your product from your website. This is great for small influencers or small retail brands. DTG is a great option for anybody who is unsure about how much inventory they should buy, because they don’t have that purchase history with their audience. Your 40s Are Good Your 50s Are Great Your 60s Are Fab And 70 Is Fucking Awesome Shirt With DTG, you can offer new designs, try a new line, or target a more niche audience. If you’re not sure how these designs will perform, you won’t be risking that much with DTG. You can start with print-on-demand and then graduate into screen printing for each individual design. Let’s say you have a company logo with one or two colors in the design and you want to print on a black shirt. If you’re planning to sell 500 of them, it is not in your best interest to offer it on print-on-demand but rather try screen printing which you can produce for five or six dollars. Pricing is worth it to switch to traditional screen printing with as few as 50 pieces per design. If you know you can sell 50 pieces of a design, you’ll most likely be saving money with screen printing. Another positive to screen printing is the washability and feel of the print is a bit more premium than DTG.

We came out with three neutral colors for our fleece this year: tan, sand dune and vintage white. Silver Labrador Patrick Live Dog Mom Life Shirt To show a way to use a neutral color but add a pop of neon, we chose tan for this design for a great contrast. One of things from a printing perspective is to get a really bright neon fluorescent color. Generally printers tend to just put a tremendous amount of ink down and we don’t want to do that- we want to keep a nice soft hand to it. We’re going to show you how you can actually apply multiple layers of neon ink and get a super bright vibrant look while retaining a nice soft hand. One of the worst things, when you put a really heavy layer of ink down? You get a nasty texture, kind of an orange peel texture, is what they call it. We want to avoid that with a nice smooth texture. Here’s how we do it:

Split your print into four separate screens to set up for four thin layers of ink. We want to have a nice bright print, but with minimal ink deposit.

Print a white under base (135 Mesh). Flash it.

Print a secondary white under base (225 Mesh). Flash that.

Print the first layer of neon green (225 Mesh). Flash it.

Print the last layer of neon green (225 Mesh). You guessed it- flash it.

The most important thing to note is all of the mesh counts are very high. Mesh meaning, we’re printing really really thin layers of ink, but stacking them on top of each other to get a really clean, bright print!

First step for printing fleece. You always want to raise the off contact because the fleece is a thicker material, you want to make sure that the screen is not touching the fleece before you print. Make sure you have about 1/8 of an inch of distance between the garment and the screen, so the screen is able to bounce back up after you apply pressure. This will help prevent smudging the ink after it’s laid down. One hack is using a piece of cardboard or thin material to help set your off contact. Secondly, selecting the right mesh count on fleece can really impact your print one way or another. You generally want to go with a lower mesh count at least for the base layer(s). The key is to penetrate the fabric to flatten the fabric out so that you have a smooth and stable printing substrate. Layering down a screen with the low mesh count will help create a smooth surface to print on. We typically start with a 135 mesh count screen for the base layer and then use a 225 mesh count screen for the top layers. Selecting the proper adhesive is very important when printing fleece. For printing jersey knit fabrics, we would generally use a roll-on water-based tack. For fleece, we use an aerosol spray and we spray each and every platen before the garment is loaded on. This is crucial for holding registration on press. Both a web-based spray adhesive or roll-on based pallet adhesive are popular choices when printing fleece. You can always test out different adhesives to see what you prefer. Just make sure the fleece stays put on the platen. An advance tip for printing fleece is to pre flash and flatten the fabrics before the very first print goes down. Run a flash that pre-shrinks the fabric and then the flattener screen is what actually locks the fabric down onto this protective flatten. Taking this extra step before you lay down any ink ensures an ultra smooth print surface on which to lay your design. It’s a quick and easy way to take your print from good to great! When we’re printing fleece, we want to be really careful about controlling the flash temperature on the press. Why is that different than printing on a T-Shirt? Because fleece is really prone to scorching, warping and moving around on press went the flash temperatures are too intense. The general idea is that you want to flash at a lower temperature and at a slightly longer dwell time if needed. For both water based and plastisol inks, we recommend flashing at temperatures between 220 and 260 degrees. This will reduce the risk of your garment streaking or distorting on the press. The best advice for printing on fleece is actually in the design stage. Designing to the substrate is what we call it, so creating designs that are actually print-friendly on fleece. Trying to minimize color count, minimize registration, limit the amount of detail in the design, that’s going to be your best bet for getting the best results. We hope these tips were helpful! Let’s start with decorating advice. When we came up with sueded fleece, we love the touch and feel, but we weren’t really sure how it’s going to print, so we sent it to Tom at Motion Textile to do a test run. There’s no question, the fabric has a great feel, but it’s extremely porous, so his approach two fold: Use textured or distressed artwork (This way, you don’t have to fully penetrate the fabric, but can just print right on top of the surface). Tom’s approach is simple, because he says the sueded fleece fabric really stands on its own, therefore, the printing should just be accenting, or adding to the fabric. Ultimately, the ink is just becoming part of the substrate for an organic and natural finished look. For printing on sueded fleece, you generally want to avoid small graphics with fine detail and tight registration. Try to keep it loose with soft inks and colors, avoiding bright hues that require multiple layers of ink. The goal is to print right into the fabric, making the graphic become part of the substrate. For a look like ours, you will want bold distressed graphics, a low viscosity ink, and one hit per color on the press with no flashing in between. The textures of the sueded fleece paired with this design creates a super unique look that’s sure to be a head-turner. How would you make a screen print design on our sueded fleece your own? For those new to this industry. Print-on-demand occurs with direct-to-garment (DTG) printers. These are like large inkjet printers that can print directly on to cotton fabrics. Print-on-demand works for people starting out their clothing line because there are not many upfront cost. It works by you’re simply going to be having your credit cards charged when someone else buys your product from your website. This is great for small influencers or small retail brands. DTG is a great option for anybody who is unsure about how much inventory they should buy, because they don’t have that purchase history with their audience. If you’re not sure how these designs will perform, you won’t be risking that much with DTG. You can start with print-on-demand and then graduate into screen printing for each individual design. Let’s say you have a company logo with one or two colors in the design and you want to print on a black shirt. If you’re planning to sell 500 of them, it is not in your best interest to offer it on print-on-demand but rather try screen printing which you can produce for five or six dollars. Pricing is worth it to switch to traditional screen printing with as few as 50 pieces per design. If you know you can sell 50 pieces of a design, you’ll most likely be saving money with screen printing. Another positive to screen printing is the washability and feel of the print is a bit more premium than DTG.
